Meet the Staff: The Blogger
[i can interview myself very well, but i am not so good at taking pictures of myself. the red hair and the rhinestone glasses are the important details.]
How long have you been knitting, and how did you learn to knit?
I have been knitting for approximately 7 months, and I taught myself from a combination of trial and error, the internet, and Debbie Stoller's Stitch 'n Bitch.
What other needle arts do enjoy?
I was a crocheter (self-taught) before I ever picked up the needles. I have been crocheting for about 5 years, and I tend to consider myself "advanced". The other gals in the shop pass me off as the "crochet expert". I wouldn't go that far, but I'm happy to help! I also sew and dye fibers.
What are your favorite techniques or styles?
In knitting I don't have favourites yet because I'm still a new knitter. I love projects worked in the round and I am pretty good at cabling. I recently began to scratch the surface of lace knitting, and I am in the middle of my first fair isle project.
With crochet, I love open work techniques that yield soft garments, and I have recently taken a shine to thread crochet.
What are you favorite fibers?
I'm a fan of both wool and cotton. I think I may be more tolerant toward cotton than most knitters, and I love to crochet with it. I also love to pet baby alpaca yarns.
What do you consider your signature projects?
Knitting: socks, gifts and other small, portable projects.
Crochet: toys, wash cloths, and gift afghans for special people.
How long have you been with Knit+Stitch?
About 5 months, give or take.
What classes do you teach?
I don't yet, but that may change. I am available for private lessons, however.
When can we typically find you in the store?
I usually work Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, alternate Friday afternoons, and some weekends. Thursday is our late night--open to 8pm--and that is often a good time to pop in if you need quick crochet help.
Besides knitting and the store, what other hobbies or projects, or jobs occupy your time? I work full time as a freelance costume designer for local theatres, and I have recently begun designing bridal gowns. I keep a knitting blog here to document my knitting (and crochet!), and I love to read.
