all the way at the bottom of the page

This is only a 50% self-serving blog update. I'm really looking out for all of you. No, really.

All the way at the bottom of the classes page there is a listing for crochet classes. I point it out because it is easily missed at the very bottom of the page, and because it will actually be happening this class season!

Often we don't have enough people signed up for the class to teach it, and this session we are lucky enough to have enough people signed up already! There is still room so if you have been turned away in the past because of under attendance or you have given up on signing up for it because we have canceled it in the past, here is your chance. Come in and crochet with me. It is fun, easy, and it may even give you new inspiration in your knitting.

Never again will you turn away from a beautful pattern in Rowan's books with a sigh because... that trim is crocheted.

See no reason to crochet? Take a chance and let me show you a whole new world of projects and techniques unique to the hook. There is more to hooking than doilies and granny squares.

Beginning Crochet
$65
Saturdays February 2 & 9 11:30am-1:30 pm.
supplies: light colored worsted weight yarn and a size "H" or "I" crochet hook. come in 15 minutes before class to select the supplies you will need.

beginner classes!

With our fall classes back in session, we have something for everyone. I have mentioned a few of our project classes, but not everyone is ready to dive into mitered squares or mittens.

Fortunately we have many sessions planned for the new knitter or crocheter! Take a beginning knitting or crochet class at the store this fall, and you can be working on your first sweater by the spring!

We have lots of sessions to fit your scheduling needs!

Beginning Knitting
  1. Tuesday, October 16 and 23 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM
  2. Saturday, October 27 and November 3 from 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM
  3. Monday, November 5 and 12 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM
  4. Wednesday, November 28 and December 5 from 10:00AM - 12:00 PM
  5. Saturday December 1 and 8 from 11:30AM-1:30PM
  6. Tuesday, December 11 and 18 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM
In this class, you will learn how to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decease, and bind off.

Beginning Crochet
  1. Saturday November 10 and 17 from 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
In this class you will learn the basics of crochet: chaining, single crochet, double crochet, increases, and decreases.

If you are not an absolute beginning knitter, but you aren't ready to tackle a big project, we have two more great classes to get you ready!

Refresher Knitting
  1. Wednesday, November 14 from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
This class is for you if you used to knit and now need to brush away the cobwebs. It is also good for newer knitters who need to be refreshed on a specific topic (purling, increases/decrease, bind off or cast on).

Fixing Mistakes
  1. Wednesday, October 17 from 6:30 PM - 8:30PM
  2. Saturday December 15 from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM
Do you have all the basics figured out, but you are frustrated that you still have imperfections in your work? We can show you how to recognize your mistakes and correct them without having to start over. Fix twisted stitches, dropped stitches, yarn overs, and other minor problems to give your knitting a more professional finished appearance.

hip to be....

miter square Meet Abby... and meet the mitered square! Abby recently taught a class on this wonderful modular knitting technique.

Modular knitting is a great way to take some basic skills and turn them into one of a kind accessories and garments. An ability to knit and purl, combined with some basic increases and decreases create these quick little squares.

The ease and speed of this technique is very gratifying once you have mastered the basics. Do you have sweater knitting experince but have never knit mitered squares? Do you have experince with modular knitting and now feel you are ready for a sweater sized project?

crayonbox Then take the Crayon Box Jacket Class! The Crayon Box Jacket is a fun garment that is designed in both child and adult sizes--tackle the size you are ready for. You can choose yarn combinations from mild to wild, and when you take the class, you will get design assistance so you don't have to worry over choosing the right yarn combinations.

Crayon Box Jacket
meets for 2 two hour sessions for $65

Monday October 8, 6:30-8:30pm

fall classes are coming!

Summer is slipping into fall. The kids are back in school, and vacations are (sadly) over. What a perfect time to take a class at the shop!

We have classes for every skill level from Beginner Knitting and Beginner Crochet to advanced techniques like Color Change and Finishing Techniques.

The mitten pictured at left is the model I finished for my Mitten and Glove Fundamentals class. I would love to show you how to make this fast and fun little project! The techniques are easier than you think, and mittens would make a great holiday gift.

The complete list of classes is available here. Stop into the shop or give us a call to sign up!
