another yarn bites the dust

manos cottonSummer is a time for planning. Here at the store, Lyn is deciding which yarns will go and which will stay. We also have some that get replaced by other similar products that we feel our customers may like better.

On the way out the door, they hit the sale bin. This week all of our Manos Cotton Stria (100% kettle dyed cotton) has been marked down to 30% off the original price. it now costs $6.97 per skein, marked down from $9.95.

We currently stock several textured cottons in this gauge, and we have decided to phase out some of them in favor of the Mission Falls 1824 Cotton. Come in and take advantage of this great deal on Manos Cotton!

new for fall!

sock yarnWe keep going on about "out with the old, and in with the new", so what's new?

New Yarns for Fall

Aussie Wool

This is a beautiful chunky weight wool that comes in fabulous colors. We have taken in this beauty to replace Madril's Iceland. Aussie wool gives you more yardage, a better color selection, and the same quality we are proud to offer at a lower price than Iceland. Great for hats, mittens, and bulkier sweaters.

Cascade 220 Paints
The latest addition to our family of Cascade 220 yarns. Paints is a hand painted variety that boasts great colors and high yardage. Perfect for accessories or a very cozy sweater. Like the other Cascade 220 wools, this one would also be great for felting.

Cascade Jewel Paints
This is a wonderful yarn we are carrying to compliment our selection of Manos del Urguay. Jewel paints has a similar thick and thin texture, knits to the same gauge, and has the beautiful hand dyed quality Manos is known for. So why this new yarn it? It comes in colors Manos does not make! Come see the beautiful hand painted blues!

Berroco Jasper
This is a beautiful 100% merino wool that has lovely self-striping color variations. This lovely yarn is perfect for felting. Imagine the color variations in a chic handbag!

Trendsetter Merino Otto Shadow
This is a delicious merino wool that has been "shadow" dyed to give it a more subtle variation in color than you find in your typical hand painted yarns. It knits to the same gauge and has a similar texture to Berroco Pure Merino and Classic Elite Waterlily and would look beautiful mixed into a garment with either of these old favourites.

ShiBui sock yarn
Shibui means "elegant with a touch of bitterness" in Japanese, and this sock yarn is truly elegant. It comes in beautiful colors that have an unsurpassed brightness and clarity. The texture of this fine merino is very similar to Kogui, but the colors are more sleek and simplified. They have a clean, chic look that would be perfect for shawls and gloves as well as scarves.

Plymouth Baby Alpaca Grande Paint
Plymouth expands its already popular line of baby alpaca yarns with a variegated version of their fabulous Baby Alpaca Grande. I love this super-bulky yarn, and the variegated colors are a welcome addition to a fantastic product line!

Rowan Kidsilk Aura
New for fall, Rowan introduces Kidsilk Aura-- a heavier weight cousin to Kidsilk Haze. It has the same delicacy, but at 4 stitches to the inch! Perfect for the look of Kidsilk Haze, but in a quicker knit!

Gedifra Lordana Boucle
Soft, springy, and squishy--everything a good boucle should be! What more can I say!? Perfect for cozy scarves and hats.

Plymouth Royal Llama Silk
This yarn is new to Plymouth this fall. When I touched this yarn for the first time I let out an unexpected "ooooooh!". it is soft, light, and has a slight sheen. 60% Llama, 40% Silk, and 100% beautiful. unlike many luxury fibers, that you mostly see in very light weights, this knits to a hearty 4.5 stitches to the inch. treat yourself to something special!

New Colors
Everything old can be new again, too. This fall we have begun to carry expanded color lines in some of our most popular yarns These include Berroco Foliage (self-striping thick and thin wool), Trendsetter Tonalita (self-striping worseted weight wool), and Trendsetter Dune (sparkly mohair blend).

Sale! Sale! Sale!
With all this new yarn, we need to continue to make room in the shop! Two days left for our summer sale. Hurry in and take away some of the luxury yarns we are practically giving away. Including... Touch Me (chenille), Jo Sharp's Rare Comfort (mohair), Reynold's Rapture (silk/wool) and several great varieties of Colinette.

knit from the sale

flower clothAre you wondering what you will be able to knit from our fantastic sale yarns? Not quiet ready to dive into the wools in a Washington DC heatwave? Want to get a start on your holiday knitting? All of the above?

then try this quick project on for size....

Reverse-Bloom Flower Washcloths
designed by Cindy Taylor

You can find this project in Melanie Falick'sWeekend Knitting (a fantastic book of quick projects--availible in our store!) or the pattern could be lingering on your very own bookshelf because it was also published in the Interweave Knits Winter 2003 issue.

These cute washcloths make a great gift idea, and they require a very small amount of yarn. 1 skein of Crystal Palace Cotton Chenille is all it takes, and we have included this soft and beautiful yarn in our sale.

I knit my own in the medium blue while on a road trip (easy car knitting!). I love the results. I know the question everyone wants answered--but how is the chenille to knit with? I loved it, and I had no problems with worming.

Won't you come in and give this little treat a try?
